         High Visibility Vests
European standard EN471 describes minimum protection for high visibility clothing.

The standard specifies the requirements for protective clothing that is designed to signal the presence of
the wearer visually in daylight as well as under illumination by headlights of cars.

There are three classes of high visibility clothing, class 1, 2 and 3. All high visibility clothing must be at
         least class 2.

         Eye Protection
European standard EN166 describes minimum standards for eye protection.

There are various protection options described within EN166. Goggles can, for instance be approved to
the option for non adherence of Molten metal, or protection against liquid droplets/splashes.

A risk assessment will identify any specific hazards on site and the goggles should be purchased to suit
those hazards. In the sign industry, the most likely hazards are impact and splashes, and therefore
options 3 (Protection against liquid droplets/splashes) and B (Medium Energy Impact) should be used.

         Gloves
There are various standards for gloves including DN420 which gives the basic requirements, but the most
appropriate is European standard EN388 which describes the minimum standards for mechanical
         protection.

EN388 standard tests gloves against mechanical hazards such as abrasion., blade cut, tear and puncture.
All tests must be undertaken and the scores are designed to show the products resistance to mechanical
hazards. The gloves will be rated with four numbers, and are scored 0-4 (higher numbers better) or 'X'
denoting that the test was not completed successfully. The first number is the Abrasion protection, next
Blade Cut protection, then Tear protection, and last Puncture protection.

Please ensure that all Safety Equipment purchased complies with the relevant Safety Standard and ask if
         in doubt.

“let’s make sure that we continue to make our sites THE SAFEST by helping ourselves, our colleagues,
our customers and even our competitors by improving training, helping where necessary and addressing
any issues of concern there and then”
