Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality Bulletin No 628

                                                     12 July 2018

                                                         Sleep

A recent government article has highlighted the risks associated with lack of sleep. See
           https://publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2018/01/18/making-the-business-case-for-sleep/

Lack of sleep can cause loss of concentration, which can lead to accidents. IOSH statistics state that
night workers are about 25-30% higher risk of injury.

Most people need between 7 to 9 hours sleep per night, and although this can be reduced for a day or
two without significant affect, further loss of sleep will have an affect on your body, memory, thinking
           and general mood.

Lack of sleep can also prevent the body from strengthening the immune system, leaving you more
           vulnerable to infections.

Lack of sleep can normally be solved by changing your sleeping habits. Follow a set routine of
bedtime/wake up times, avoid eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, avoid using electronic devices before
bedtime, keep your bedroom quiet, cool and dark.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
