Existing MID not secure
Example of existing MID not being correctly
secured, the nut was found loose and not providing
any support for the MID, on this installation only one
of the eight bolts was tight.
Parts loose on existing MID
Often we find parts of the trim loose, or panels
missing. In the photo we found two large washers on
the top of the MID.
Other problems with existing MID
On one site the crew assessed that the existing MID
position was so close to a major road (the A1) that it
was too hazardous to work when the weather
conditions were taken into account. The work was
postponed and rescheduled when the weather
conditions were more favourable.
Problems with lifting equipment / HIAB
Occasionally MID’s are supplied with insufficient
base plate support bars (or in this case missing
completely). The support bar is necessary to
stabilise the MID when lifting.
Other common problems involve lifting eyes being
unsuitable or out of date.
