Trend Analysis Alert - MID Potential Incidents
During 2012 we recorded 45 near miss / potential incidents involving MID’s signs, this accounts for
13% of the total NM/PI’s recorded in the year.
62% of the problems identified were related to the condition of the existing MID.
NM / PI’s identified on existing MID:
24% Existing electrical problems
18% Existing MID not secure
18% Parts loose on existing MID
2% Other problems with existing MID
NM / PI’s identified on installation/removal process:
16% Problems with lifting equipment / HIAB
11% Problems during MID installation procedure
6% Problems with tools / spanners
4% Problems during MID removal procedure
The following are brief details of sample incidents, as an aid as to what to be aware of when carrying
out any work on MID’s.
Existing electrical problems
These are very common, with the supply cables not correctly terminated or unsuitable junction boxes
being used.
