Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 332
29 November 2012
Flooding Hazards
Please see enclosed self-explanatory bulletin that was shared with us by JCI.
At the time of writing, the Met Office still has amber and yellow alert of rain warnings for much of the
country and the Environment Agency has issued 254 Flood Warnings and 301 Flood Alerts.
The floods have introduced many new hazards to sites that may include hidden submerged hazards,
missing drain covers or debris. Do not walk through standing water.
The water is likely to be contaminated by sewerage or chemicals, so ensure you wash your hands after
any contact with standing water.
The flooding has displaced a lot of rats who have now moved to higher ground and trying to find new
homes. The increased risk of Weils disease is therefore not only in flooded areas, but also any
surrounding dry area where the rats may be seeking refuge.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
