Tyre Tread Depth
It is Xmo Strata policy to change vehicle tyres when the tread depth is 3mm.
The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm, however evidence shows that a 3mm tyre has 25%
better performance in wet conditions than a 1.6mm tyre.
Xmo have therefore negotiated with lease companies to replace leaved vehicle tyres when they are worn
down to a 3mm tread depth.
Tests carried out by Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA)
Although these tests have been disputed by some tyre manufacturers, and more recent tests show a good
quality tyre at 1.6mm will out perform a cheap type at 3mm, we feel there is enough evidence to
continue support this initiative.
When doing your weekly van inspection ensure your tyre tread depth is at least 3mm and contact the
office when this limit is reached.
