Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 545
08 December 2016
Fire
Please see enclosed bulletin regarding fire, shared with us by Gilbarco Veeder-Root.
The latest HSE statistics show that 10 people were killed in 2015/16 by fire/explosions whilst at work, and a further
231 suffered non-fatal reportable injuries.
The nature of fuel stations means there is a significant fire/explosion hazard. Ensure you always follow the site rules,
do not take ignition sources into the hazardous area, and report any fuel spills.
We often see members of the public on site using potential ignition sources (smoking, using mobile phones, jump
starting vehicles etc), when you see this a positive intervention should be made to stop the hazard - approach the
person and politely ask them to stop, explaining the hazard and potential consequences. Always report any positive
interventions and potential hazards so that we can analyse trends and update our clients as appropriate.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has bee n learned
throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual presentations, and some by
reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo
Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep
you well informed!
