Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 512

Eye On The Ball
Please see enclosed bulletin regarding the checking of equipment, shared with us by Artelia.
It is easy to miss trip hazards from kerb stones, gutters, or drain covers etc when carrying out a LMRA, they are
so common everywhere we go that they don’t register as a hazard. But the fact is that they are a common cause
of injuries, especially when you are concentrating on the “big” hazards.
When carrying out the LRMA, look at the risk categories on your LMRA card, consider each carefully, you will
always find some on site, but don’t dismiss them because they are always there – the more common a hazard the
more likely it is to injure you.
If there are potential trip hazards in your work area, consider how you can control them. Some trip hazards may
be able to be removed, others such as kerbs you may have to consider if you can work from another direction, or
place barriers/cones around them. Talk to all members of the team to ensure everybody is aware of the hazards
and control methods.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
