The following rules are designed to enforce and educate our workforce to latest statutory regulations
and company policy
As many as 20% (1:5), pole signs that we visit have a cellular antenna installed within the panelling at
high level, The danger from this instrument is of radiation / microwave danger. The following
procedures must be adhered to when found.
1. No work to be carried within 2 mts of a live (powered up antenna)
2. The pole or MID sign should have a label fitted indicating an antenna installation (do not
rely on this) and also have an LED in the base panel, that is clearly seen from the ground
3. If the light is OFF, indicating that the system is in fact live & Powered Up, No Work must
be carried out within the area as stated above until such time the unit is isolated
4. Procedure for isolation: Is to call the T Mobile (or other supplier – telephone number on
LED box) Network Management Centre on 020 8899 8444, with the following information:
• Fuel Company Site Name
• Site Cell No (located on control board adjacent the LED light)
• Name & Mobile No of Installation Crew
• Request immediate power down. This will require a Permit To Work on site with
the cell ID down (prior request is advised as the providers require up to 3
days notice beforehand.
• If work on panel is required immediately, you must stress the importance of the task
in hand, i.e. panels loose – water ingress etc
Before work commences a check should be made to ensure that the LED is illuminating. If
possible turn the electrical feed off to the unit as an additional precaution.
5. In ALL cases inform the Operations Manager / Supervisor of your findings, if in doubt don’t
work and seek assistance.
“let’s make sure that we continue to make our sites THE SAFEST by helping ourselves, our colleagues,
our customers and even our competitors by improving training, helping where necessary and
addressing any issues of concern there and then”
