MEWP Checklist Improvement
Following a potential incident reported by a crew using a
scissor lift, our MEWP checklist has been updated to include
a check that the maintenance prop is clipped in place.
The PI occurred because the clip was bent, preventing the
prop from being held securely. When the scissor lift was
used, the maintenance prop had become unclipped and
prevented the platform from being lowered.
The rescue policy was implemented and the prop hooked into
place by another crew in order to lower the platform.
The MEWP checklist must be completed every time you use a
MEWP, but should not be considered a definitive list of faults to
look for. The IPAF course all crews attend gives comprehensive
training on the inspection and use of MEWP’s, and the checklist
is just a memory jogger for more common items to check covered
in the course.
If you find any faults when inspecting a MEWP, do not use it –
contact your line manager who will arrange a repair /
replacement.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works
for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
