Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 361
13 June 2013
Emergency Contact Numbers
We often discuss the issues of emergency preparedness, safety at home and safety in preparation,
but how many of you have ever considered these things when travelling abroad? We also take the
trouble to find out where is the nearest hospital to a site, but what if you were involved in an incident
whilst in another country on business or on holiday, would you know who to call for help?
This presents additional hazards, as commonly we are not aware of local procedures, customs, rules, or
emergency contact information.
Although most European countries have now standardised on the 112 emergency contact number, a
number of common holiday destinations have very different numbers.
Below we have provided a list of local emergency contact numbers for the most commonly visited
countries. This bulletin could be printed and placed on a noticeboard for general reference, but we have
also taken the liberty of producing “passport friendly print versions”, with the idea that one might be
able to print pages that are the right dimensions and font size to be stuck onto a page in your passport
(for example), so that you might always have them with you when travelling. (Please note that we cannot
be held responsible for the accuracy of this information).
