                                        Lessons Learnt: Housekeeping

Recently an Xmo Strata electrician found a nail in the sole of his boot whilst he was cleaning his safety
boots. The nail had pierced the sole and had only been stopped by the steel sole plate of the boots.

Lessons learnt include checking the work area before you start work, work as tidily as you can,
adopting good housekeeping principles and clear up after you when you have finished. It also
demonstrates the importance of wearing good
quality safety boots, which in this case prevented
what could have been a significant injury.

In line with good housekeeping procedures,
waste should be moved to a segregated area at
           regular intervals.

We have had several reports recently where the
beds of scissor lifts have been left with tek
screws and other waste covering the bed, this is
unacceptable and could lead to serious injuries if
somebody was to stand on the screws.

Do not let waste build up in the working area, and always dispose of it before the end of the work shift.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
