Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 307
14 June 2012
Slips, Trips & Falls
Please see enclosed self-explanatory bulletin from JCI.
Slips trips and falls are one of the most frequent hazards on any site. From our own records of potential
incidents recorded in Xmoman, 8.7% of all reported near-miss and potential incidents are reports of
trip, slip or fall hazards.
This appears to have increased this year, with 14.8% of all reported incidents in 2012 being trip, slip or
fall hazards (compared to 8.5% in 2011, and 9.2% in 2010).
Percentage of incidents reported by Xmo that are trip, slip or fall hazards.
When carrying out your last minute risk assessment (LMRA), always check for slip, trip or fall hazards
in your work area (use your LMRA card as a reminder) - this can be as simple as identifying that there
is a kerb, step or pothole near the sign you will be working on. Ensure that you keep your work area
tidy, and that any loose material or waste is removed to a safe location where it cannot be a trip hazard.
Always remember to address and hazard at source to eliminate or reduce the risk to others and
complete a F1.8.2 Near Miss form so that others can learn from it and we can ensure that any
unaddressed hazard is brought to the attention of our client.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
