Traffic On Site
Traffic flow on sites is a constant hazard, we have recorded 73 Potential Incidents, 52 Near Misses, and
16 Property Damage incidents caused by drivers on site.
An example of a recent Potential Incident is an incident in Bristol where it was reported that vehicles
were entering via the exit lane of the site, causing the positioning of the van in the line of fire to be less
effective as vehicles were approaching the works from opposite directions.
Another example was a Potential Incident at a site in Birmingham where a third-party contractor closed
the road at the site entrance, forcing site patrons to use the site exit. The Xmo crew identified this
hazard and rearranged the work area to move our vehicle to block the new line of fire from the exit.
These examples show the importance of keeping aware of your surroundings and not making
assumptions about the traffic flow on site. We require you to use your vehicle as a barrier in the line of
fire wherever practical, but beware that doesn’t protect you from vehicles entering or manoeuvring on
site from unexpected directions. Ensure you apply suitable and sufficient barriers around your entire
work area, giving yourself a 3m safety zone. If you are unable to suitably barrier a specific site, or feel
additional controls are needed, stop and contact your line manager.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
