Although the crew took immediate steps to protect
their hands from bites, the MID replacement went
ahead without the specific risk from the spiders
being considered. The risk of spiders falling from
higher in the MID onto their heads, necks etc was
also not addressed (see previous bulletin where a
plumber was bitten on their neck).

If you find a sign or manhole infested with these
spiders, or their nests, do not attempt to move
           them, contact your line manager.

Only consider continuing to work if you are sure
you will not disturb them or their nests, will not be
working where they could fall or drop on you, and
where you have carried out and documented a
           LMRA.

Remember your refusal to work procedures and
need to check for nests in work area (see JSA002).

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works
for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
