Unsuitable Anchor Points
Over the past year we have identified three sites where anchor points have been secured to the canopy
top sheeting. We have identified a further two sites where anchor points have been secured to thin
canopy edge metalwork.
In the event of a fall anchors have to withstand significant forces, as they are likely to be used by more
than one person it is recommended that they be tested to 12kN + 1kN per person. It is unlikely these
anchors would be sufficient to withstand the forces involved.
Anchor point secured to canopy top sheeting
Our JSA’s document suitable steelwork needed for anchor positions, and we have commissioned
independent tests to ensure these are suitable for up to 15kN loads.
If you find an existing anchor point that you think does not meet Xmo standards, or you are unsure is
acceptable, do not use it, report it so we can formally inform the site of our concerns.
If you are unclear on the requirements for anchor positions, contact your line manager.
