Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 549

                                                   05 January 2016

                                                 Ring Finger Injury

Please see enclosed safety alert regarding hand injury, shared with us by Freightliner.

These images indicate why wearing rings and jewellery on site is not encouraged and we suggest that you do not
       wear them unless absolutely necessary.

Ring Avulsion Injuries are cause by the sudden pull on a ring, and can result in severe soft tissue damage or
amputation of the finger. The usual causes are a ring being caught in a moving machine or protruding object.

Although accurate statistics on the number of these injuries is not available, FESUM (European Federation of
emergency services) state that wearing ring and wedding bands is estimated to be the cause of one amputation per
       day.
