Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 525

Summer Sun Control Measures
Our Bulletin No 523 highlighted the symptoms of dehydration including thirst, headaches, general
discomfort, loss of appetite, lack of concentration, confusion, unexplained tiredness, and even seizures.
We suggested that dehydration affects your concentration and energy levels even on less sunny days,
but with the sunny conditions forecast, we want to reinforce the need to use a high factor sun protection
screen, drink plenty of fluids (a minimum of 1.5 – 2 litres per day) and we have sourced safety helmet
coolers to keep our site operatives cool.
The coolers are specially designed to be soaked in cold water and are designed to fit neatly inside the
safety helmets that we specify are used on our sites, keeping the wearers head cool in very hot weather.
If neck protection and cooling are also required, there is a second option, that also achieves this.
Option 1 – this cools the top of the wearers head.
