Muster Points
As part of our emergency preparedness procedures, when attending every job we ask the site
representative about the sites emergency procedures, including the position of the sites muster point.
As well as ensuring the safety of our staff and site patrons, this exercise also adds value to our clients,
who have a legal obligation under The Regulatory Reform Order 2005 to ensure that suitable fire
evacuation procedures are in place. The link below relates to a retailer that received a £400,000 fine
despite the fact that no-one was hurt when a fire broke out at their store.

Since 2009 we have recorded 186 potential incidents related to the sites emergency procedures.
In 34 cases the site representative did not know the muster point, and in 82 cases the muster point stated
was inappropriate, usually due to it being across a busy road.
When attending sites, always examine the sites emergency plan and evaluate if it is safe for your needs,
discuss any issues with the site representative, and if necessary agree a temporary emergency muster
point and document it on the clearance certificate.
