                                            Working From Scaffolds

Please see enclosed lessons learnt report regarding recent prosecution following a fall from a scaffold,
           shared with us by SPESHC.

This incident is a reminder to ensure that scaffolds are complete and have suitable handrails before
working from them. Check the scaff-tag, if it is not present or is incomplete, do not use the scaffold –
contact your line manager. Under no circumstances should you attempt to modify or alter the scaffold
           yourself.

When building mobile scaffold towers, use the 3T method (see http://xmostrata.com/download/9244/),
this enables handrails to be erected before you step up to the platform. Follow your PASMA training
and documented safe systems of work.

If you see anybody working without handrails, or scaffolders building scaffolding without suitable fall
arrest equipment, follow your training on positive interventions to discuss the risks with them and
suggest that there is be a safer way.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
