Vehicle Driver Monitoring
Driving is one of the most hazardous activities that we carry out, and our statistics show that we have recorded
113 driving related incidents (52 Potential Incidents, 47 Near-Misses, 13 Property Damage, 1 First Aid). This
makes it the third most common activity for incident reports.
The Department of Transport reports that a total of 22,830 people were killed or seriously in the year
ending June 2015 and there were 180,500 casualties of all severities in the same period.
Last year to help improve driving all employees attended a ABS braking and skid training course. This showed
the effects of driving in low traction (icy/snowy conditions) and gave guidance and practical hands-on training in
controlling the vehicle.
This year we have implemented a driver monitor system that is installed in the vehicles and monitors how well
the vehicle is being driven. This includes keeping to speed limits, accelerating, braking, cornering and direction
changes. Environmental factors are also monitored such as idling time. This enables us to ensure the vehicles
are driven in a safe condition, and provide training or advise where drivers are not meeting our required
standards.
