Driving Related Incidents
Please see enclosed safety alert regarding driving incidents shared with us by Gilbarco Veeder-Root.
Driving is one of the most dangerous activities we do, and is also a major hazard on the forecourt on
which we work; we have 114 driving related PI/NM’s logged, 10 of which occurred during 2015.
Driving is the third highest activity on our XmoMan MIS Database to result in a PI/NM (the highest
activity’s being electrical work and signware erection).
During our 2015 H&S week, crews attended a ‘vehicle skid and emergency braking’ course, which
gave practical guidance on controlling the vehicle during an emergency, but always remember it is
best to plan your journey and drive defensively so that emergency braking is not needed.
Always check your vehicle before driving, we require a formal F14.6.1 Vehicle Check form to be
completed once a week, but that does not negate the need to do daily checks of the vehicle to ensure
it is safe to drive and the vehicle is loaded securely (driving and loading is documented in JSA001).
Remember to always follow the highway code, and report any incidents, accidents or vehicle faults.
If a vehicle has a dangerous fault, do not drive it - contact your line manager.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
