Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 455

                                                   19 March 2015

                                                    Aerosol Cans

Please see enclosed safety alert regarding a fire caused by an aerosol can that was shared with us by Gilbarco
           Veeder-Root.

This highlights the need to always be vigilant on the forecourt, and ensure your housekeeping is maintained and
that you have a sufficient buffer between you and the barriers so that materials cannot fall/roll out of the working
           area.

Always check you have a COSHH assessment for any chemical you are using, this includes paint, solvents,
cleaning chemicals or aerosols. If you don’t have an appropriate COSHH assessment contact your line manager
           immediately.

Always read the labels on any cans or tins and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If an aerosol can has
become damaged, do not attempt to repair it or improvise a nozzle; aerosol cans are pressurised and can kill if
           they are tampered with.

See details of a fatal aerosol accident in our bulletin 049 - http://xmostrata.com/correct-use-and-storage-of-
           aerosol-containers/

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
