Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 399

                                                 27 February 2014

                                                     Cable Strike

Please see enclosed a self-explanatory bulletin that was shared with us by Aecom.

Although we do not carry out any significant excavation works, we do occasionally have to break away
the surface around ground signs (especially MID’s) in order to gain access to the bolts. This incident is
a reminder that electrical cables can be found very close to the surface and unmarked, and as such great
care should be taken on even the most minor of works that involves digging or breaking out the surface.

When breaking out MID’s there will always be nearby power cables that supply the MID lighting and
price change systems, it is therefore important that the MID be isolated and locked off using LOTO
procedures before any excavation is carried out.

If any cables are disturbed, do not touch them! Even badly damaged cables can still be live - there have
been cases of people being killed because it was assumed the cable was far too damaged to possibly
           still be live.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works
for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
