Wind Damage
During the recent high winds (reportedly
65mph), we received a call-out reporting that a
fascia panel had been broken off a canopy that
we had recently worked on.
We attended site and found that one of the
fascia panels had been ripped off the canopy
by the high winds. Whilst we had reported to
the manufacturer that there was a significant
design issue, the wind had been able to get into
the panel as two adjacent panels had not been
fitted; they had been left off because they were
the wrong colour, without due consideration as Canopy with missing fascia panels
to what might happen in the event of strong
winds.
The panel fell to the ground, but nobody was
hurt.
It is extremely important to consider as part of
your LMRA (Last Minute Risk assessment)
that no fascia panels should be left open to the
wind. Adjacent panels must be installed even Damaged fascia panel where fixing was
ripped out by wind
if they are incorrect. If it is not safe to install
the adjacent panels, then an alternative method must be used to block the wind (i.e.
installing a temporary panel or end cap). Inform your supervisor of all actions taken so a
remedial action plan can be prioritised.
