Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 298

                                                    12 April 2012

                                       Load Sensing Device on MEWPs

Please see enclosed self-explanatory bulletin from AFI-Uplift Limited.

This bulletin explains what the load sensing device is designed to do, and why it will lock the MEWP if
you raise it into an obstruction.

Back in 2010 we had a MEWP touch the underside of the canopy which caused the Load Sensing
Device to lock the MEWP, leaving the engineer stuck in the basket for 15 minutes until he was able to
           lower the basket.

Always ensure you are familiar with the emergency controls of the MEWP, and with our rescue
           procedure P4.1.2.4.

If you require any guidance or clarification, please contact your Regional Operations Manager or direct
           line manager.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
