Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 297
5 April 2012
Heaters and Electrical Equipment
Please see enclosed self-explanatory bulletin from Shell.
Although this bulletin details the use of heaters near IT equipment, the same is true for all electrical
equipment.
All electrical equipment generates heat, and the manufacturers of the equipment design the equipment
to withstand a certain temperature assuming a reasonable ambient temperature that will allow air flow
to dissipate the internally generated heat. If a heater is sited near the equipment this will disrupt the
natural air flow cooling of the equipment and risk overheating.
When selecting electrical equipment, always consider the environment it was designed to be used in,
this includes ambient temperature, weather conditions or hazardous environments.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
