Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 293

                                                   15 March 2012

Visual Inspection of Electrical Hand Tools

Carrying out a visual inspection of all power tools
or equipment before use is essential. Just because
there is a current PAT test sticker on the
equipment, does not mean the equipment is safe
           to use.

Before using any equipment, always check the
condition of the equipment and of the power lead.
If the equipment is damaged or shows signs of a
bodged repair, do not use it.

Check cables for cuts, nicks or other damage. Do
not attempt to repair cables with tape or
connectors. If you can see the coloured insulation
of the conductors, then no matter how minor the cut, or how
urgent the work - do not use it.

Report any defective or damaged equipment to your line manager
so that replacements can be obtained. Never attempt to repair
           damaged equipment yourself.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything
we do has been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and
charts, some through visual presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we
receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of
communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we
will do all we can to keep you well informed!
