Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 266

                                     K Parmentier – 22 September 2011

                                                Asbestos Essentials

Please see enclosed recently revised Asbestos Essentials sheet from HSE that covers
work with highly bonded asbestos which may be found in some Retail service stations.
Asbestos related illness is a major killer in the workplace and ensuring peoples health is
protected is a priority for us all. The leaflet is one of a series of Asbestos guides on the
           HSE web site."

Although these HSE guides detail safe ways for non-licensed contractors to carry out
certain types of work on asbestos, in the real world some of the procedures and de-
contamination procedures are difficult to carry out in practice, especially on a petrol
station open to the public; it is therefore Xmo Strata's policy to not allow any crews to

carry out any work on asbestos containing materials. All crews attend training on
asbestos awareness and if any material is found that is suspected may contain asbestos,
the work in that area is stopped until the substance can be analysed by a specialist.

Risk management is a big step towards accident prevention; however, it is dependent on the risk firstly
being identified, then controlled. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an integral part
of both our working and home lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others. Remember: if
shared, risks can be mitigated before they pose a threat.

If you have any queries regarding the Safety Bulletin content or require further information please
contact any staff member of Xmo Strata Ltd.
