India Hand Injury
Please see enclosed a safety alert regarding a hand injury that was shared with us by CBRE and Artelia.
This incident reminds us of the importance of checking work equipment to ensure they are safe for use,
and the need to review your control measures if anything changes on site.
Before using any equipment always inspect it for damage or missing parts, where applicable complete
the appropriate safety form to document this inspection. Don’t just think this means MEWPs, towers,
or lifting equipment, even day-to-day hand tools should be checked before use. If you find any problem
with them, remove them from use and replace them. Don’t attempt to use any tools or equipment that is
faulty or has parts missing.
Often when working on sites you can find that the work needed is not as you originally thought, or you
find something unexpected behind a panel, or the site / weather conditions can change. When this
happens stop and re-assess the risks. Carry out a Last Minute Risk Assessment (LMRA) and consider
what additional controls you need to make the work safe and document those on your clearance
certificate.
If the change in circumstances means it is not safe to proceed, stop and contact your line manager
immediately.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
