Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 573

                                                    22 June 2017

                                                   Eye Protection

A near miss was reported recently when installing signage on a fuel station. One of our engineers was
drilling a pilot hole for a M8 bolt, during the drilling operation the drill bit snapped and struck his safety
glasses; without the glasses, there is no doubt at all that his eye would have been injured.

This shows why safety glasses are necessary at all times when using drills and other types of plant/tools.
If the engineer had not been wearing suitable safety glasses the bit could have caused significant
           damage to his eye.

Xmo Strata has a policy that employees should wear safety glasses on site at all times; this eliminates
the risk of you forgetting to put them on before using plant/tools.

If you need new safety glasses, contact your line manager. Replace any glasses that are damaged or
scratched as they may be potentially weakened.
