Fatality

This article details a recent incident where a woman was walking across the forecourt when struck by a HGV, she
died at the scene.
Working on forecourts we regularly see people walking across forecourt, often not paying attention to oncoming
traffic. This incident shows why it is important to always be aware of your surroundings and walk around the
forecourt, especially HGV lanes. This is also one of the reasons why mobile phones are banned on forecourts – its
far too easy to be distracted by them.
We encourage all crews to undertake a positive intervention when they see people using mobile devices on the
forecourt, or see people working/walking in areas unsafely. Remember that by intervening you could be saving
their life!
