Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 536
06 October 2016
Bite Control
Please see enclosed safety alert regarding the risk of bites shared with us by Quant Service.
Although several of the species listed in the bulletin are not found in the UK, there is an increasing risk from false
widow spiders, as discussed in several previous bulletins (see http://xmostrata.com/false-widow-spiders-3/). Also
according to the office of national statistics, between 2001-2013, 13 people died from bee stings in England & Wales.
If you find a wasp or bee nest or are approached by a bee/wasp, remain calm and slowly move away – don’t wave
your arms around or try to swat them. Always wear long sleeved clothing.
Be vigilant when working near areas potentially containing vermin, such as near rubbish bin areas or where waste
has collected. Always wear gloves, and dispose of them if they become contaminated, such as by touching areas
likely to be used by rats and therefore contaminated by Weil's disease.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has bee n learned
throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual presentations, and some by
reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo
Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep
you well informed!
