Electric Shock
Please see enclosed safety alert regarding an electric shock shared with us by BP.
This incident is a reminder of the hazards that can be found when opening or entering enclosures. This could easily
have been inside the canopy or a fascia, it’s not just relevant to false ceilings.
We often have to work on sites where the electrical system has been modified numerous times over the years, and
often the non-hazardous circuits on fuel stations are never inspected or tested. This results in redundant cables,
incorrect labelling and electrical faults that could cause exposed live cables to be found in unexpected locations.
When opening up a sign, fascia, canopy or enclosure, always isolate (LOTO) the circuit feeding the sign/enclosure
and any nearby cables/supplies. If you are unable to identify the circuit you need to isolate, contact your line
manager. If you find a bare cable or exposed live part, do not touch it, get an electrician to prove its dead and isolated
before working anywhere near it.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has bee n learned
throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual presentations, and some by
reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo
Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters, videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for
us to share health and safety information, please let us know. Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep
you well informed!
