Food For Thought
Please see enclosed safety message regarding safe driving, shared with us by Shell.
When driving always keep your focus on the road, never attempt to use a mobile phone/device whilst
driving. If you need to make a call or check a map, pull over and stop the vehicle in a safe place to do
so (not motorway hard shoulders). If you are using a satellite navigation system, set it up before you
move off, don’t try to enter details into it whilst driving. Any paperwork or materials in the driver cabin
should be secured to ensure it does not move and become a distraction, or become a projectile if you
have to stop suddenly.
It is illegal to use a hand held mobile phone whilst driving (even if you are stopped at traffic lights or
queuing in traffic), with automatic fixed penalties of 3 points and £100 fine. Should the case go to court
you could be disqualified and get a fine of £1000.
The latest statistics from the Department for Transport show that 1713 people were killed on the roads
in 2013, that’s an average of 5 deaths per day. 26% of these fatalities had failure to look properly as a
contributory factor, and 35% were loss of control.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
