Speed Kills
We would like to thank Ian Kidger,
Regional Safety and Risk Advisor,
ExxonMobil for bringing this link to our
attention. Please see short video at

Ian stated, “A short video illustrating the
‘statistic’ that since 2000 in Northern Ireland
28 children have been killed by speeding
drivers. This is a whole class of kids. For the
statistically Northern Ireland population is 1.8 million, scaled for UK (63 million) the death rate would
mean around 1,000 children died since 2000 in the whole of the UK. How shocking is that?”
“Speed alone does not kill, but
• Speed significantly reduces time and space and effective vision for driver decisions. Without
these safety factors driving is unsafe.
• Energy increases with the square of the speed, and this will determine trajectory of vehicle prior
to and post collision, and affect the impact forces on vehicles and people.
• Pedestrians and cyclists have no air bags, crumple zones, bumpers, or belts, hit them at speed
>30 MPH then they will likely die.”
“Please share this message, as some drivers earnestly believe speeding is normal, fun, or worth the
risks. As noted by the video shame on them.”
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works
for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
