Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 405
10 April 2014
Q1 Statistics
This bulletin is to specifically thank our site teams for an excellent first quarter performance in
identifying hazards and immediately mitigating the risk of someone being hurt.
In the first quarter of this year we have seen a significant increase of the number of potential incidents
identified. In the first three months of 2014 we have received 126 potential incident reports, this
compares with 99 from last year, and 64 from 2012. This represents 3450 PI’s per hundred thousand
man-hours worked, an increase from 2680 in 2013 and 1009 in 2012.
This increased focus is widely welcomed by our clients because identifying hazards on site before they
become problems in order to keep everybody safe protects them from being sued for valid or alleged
injuries by site patrons, usually through no-win no-fee solicitors.
In a significant number of cases we have been able to fix the problem at the time we spot it, thereby
eliminating the hazard as source. A total of 58 hazards (46% of all PI & NM’s) were eliminated
immediately by the crew at the time, and in 4 other cases the crew was able to reduce the risk by adding
additional controls.
This performance is very much appreciated and our thanks go to everyone who has contributed.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works
for us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
