Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 251
M Mott – 16 June 2011
Be Prepared
Please see enclosed self explanatory safety alert received from JCI.
This shows the need to always be prepared for all eventualities; have you got a fire
extinguisher close at hand, first aid kit, do you know where the nearest hospital is?
What is the worst this that could happen, and how would you deal with it?
Whatever job you do, emergency preparedness is a critical part of our job preparation
and you should consider the consequences of unforeseen hazards that may arise as part
of your risk assessment when completing your clearance certificate.
Risk management is a big step towards accident prevention; however, it is dependent on the risk firstly
being identified, then controlled. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an integral part
of both our working and home lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others. Remember: if
shared, risks can be mitigated before they pose a threat.
