Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 206
D Heathorn - 2 September 2010
Safety - It's In Your Hands
Please see enclosed self explanatory bulletin from ExxonMobil Environmental Services.
Xmo Strata have implemented a number of initiatives to minimise the risk of blade cuts, having
identified in 2008 that they equated to 66% of our incidents resulting in harm.
In December 2008, we invited Marigold Industrial to our safety awareness day and engaged our
site teams in their glove selection.
In 2009, we generated a glove checklist and subsequently reviewed all of our JSA/JHA/Safety
Method Statements to include a minimum glove rating for each task.
In January 2010, we banned the use of fixed blade knives on all Xmo Strata sites.
I am delighted to confirm that we have now completed 100,000 hours of work since our last
blade cut and would like to thank all of our site operatives for supporting these initiatives and
making them work.
As you are all aware, Xmo Strata rules requires the wearing of gloves at all times whilst on site,
and all our JSA's identify the minimum rating of the gloves to be worn for each task. If you
have concerns, think you can suggest improvements, or disagree with any rating on the JSA's
let us know.

About Risk
Risk management is a big step towards accident prevention; however, it is dependent on the risk firstly
being identified, then controlled. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an integral part
of both our working and home lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others. Remember: if
shared, risks can be mitigated before they pose a threat.
If you have any queries regarding the Safety Bulletin content or require further information please
contact any staff member of Xmo Strata Ltd.
