Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 182
S Martin – 18 March 2010
Accidents Can Happen at Home
As you are all aware, we work very hard to encourage instinctively safe behaviour from
all of our employees and approved subcontractors. The most recent behavioural safety
courses that we’ve delivered have tried to encourage safety at home as well as at work.
The attached lesson learnt report is an excellent example of how easy it is to forget that
behavioural safety is as important at home as it is at work.
My thanks go to Steve Knights who was brave enough to share this with us and agree to
it being a bulletin topic.
Please remember that safety and welfare at home is as important to your nearest and
dearest as your safety and welfare at work.

About Risk
Risk management is a big step towards accident prevention; however, it is dependent on the risk firstly
being identified, then controlled. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an integral part
of both our working and home lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others. Remember: if
shared, risks can be mitigated before they pose a threat.
