Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 170

                                         S Martin – 31 December 2009

                                              Fixed Blade Knife Ban

Please see enclosed self explanatory safety instruction from Esso.

From 1st January 2010 no fixed blade knives will be allowed on Esso sites. All blades
must be self-retracting or enclosed. This is in response to several incidents recently
where injuries have occurred caused by knives.

At Xmo Strata, we instigated an initiative to replace all fixed blade knives earlier in
2009 and you should all have been issued with self-retracting knives. If you have not
received these, or find they are not suitable for a particular task, then contact your
           supervisor.

We have solutions to using fixed blade knives for every task on our JSA/SMS’ and
therefore there should be no need to have any fixed blade knife on ANY Xmo site.

Under no circumstances are you to use fixed blade knives on any site.

Our individual safety is not solely in our hands, we have to rely on those around us to steer us away
from danger and warn us of potential hazards. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an
integral part of our working lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others.

If you have any queries regarding the Safety Bulletin content or require further information please
contact any staff member of Xmo Strata Ltd.
