Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 105
S Martin – 4 September 2008
Building a Mobile Scaffold Tower
As part of our commitment to checking that our safe systems of work are compliant with
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health & Safety at Work
Regulations 1999, we have recently completed our annual review of our training
requirements, job safety assessments, safety method statements and risk assessments.
One area that provoked internal discussion related to how managers audit site operators
when building mobile scaffold towers. This is particularly important to carry out
accurately as ALL site employees are PASMA trained and the auditor may not be.
As you know, at Xmo Strata we have adopted the 3T (through the trapdoor) method of
construction because we believe this to be the safest.
The attached “sharing best practice” guide has been developed to assist our auditors,
who will visit and assess each team building a mobile tower during September and
October.
If you have any queries as to the process detailed, please contact your supervisor.
For those receiving this bulletin by e-mail, because of the file size, the “sharing best
practice” guide is attached to the safety bulletin on our website and can be accessed by
clicking the link in the bulletin body.

Being safe depends on the choices we make everyday. The right choices can save lives. We want to
share safety information and help to raise industry awareness. Safety is not about getting one over on
the competition. We need to talk openly, share what we know and make the right choices.
If you have any queries regarding the Safety Bulletin content or require further information please
contact any staff member of Xmo Strata Ltd.
