Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 276
1 December 2011
Melting Electrical Cable
Please see enclosed self-explanatory bulletin received from The RSK Group.
Before using any equipment you must ensure you are familiar with how it works and any
restrictions on its use. Always read the instructions and any warnings written on the
equipment.
According to the latest government statistics, electrical faults account for 20.8% of all
fires in the UK and were responsible for 28 fatalities and 1214 non-fatal casualties in
2008. Always check equipment before use, ensure cables are not damaged or
overloaded, and equipment is suitable for the task.
Risk management is a big step towards accident prevention; however, it is dependent on the risk firstly
being identified, then controlled. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an integral part
of both our working and home lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others. Remember: if
shared, risks can be mitigated before they pose a threat.
If you have any queries regarding the Safety Bulletin content or require further information please
