Plant Operations Injury
A Wolverhampton based company has recently been fined £50,000 + costs after a 39 year old employee
was crushed by a reversing excavator.
The employee was moving debris from around the excavator when it began to reverse, he was crushed
leaving him with serious injuries to his leg, pelvis, liver and lungs.
The workman requires assistance to move around his home and he has not returned to work more than
16 months after the incident.

This incident highlights the need for the segregation of vehicles and pedestrians. Barriers must be
erected around your work area, even on closed sites. Use a banksman when moving plant (including
MEWPS and vehicles) on site.
