Spreaders
We have recently identified a growing trend of finding spreader box signage not correctly secured.
In the past 7 years, we have identified 30 potential incidents / near misses where spreaders were not adequately
secured, with 8 of those being identified in the past year.
Mostly these relate to insufficient fixings being used to secure the spreader to the stanchion. The number of
fixings required will depend on the type of spreader box being installed, and the manufacturer’s instructions must
be followed and all fixing holes utilised.
Given that a spreader can often weight up to 40kg, the consequences of one falling could be very serious.
