Lifting Operations
Please see enclosed bulletin regarding injury from a lifting operation, shared with us by Aecom.
This incident highlights the need to always have a suitable and sufficient lift plan before carrying out
any lifting operation. The lift plan should be specific to the lift being carried out, understood by all
parties involved, and written by a competent person. We train all our lifting operators to NPORS
standards so that they are aware of the hazards and responsibilities of the role, and can take charge of
the lift to ensure it is carried out in a safe and effective manner.
Before carrying out the lift, always check that the lifting equipment used is suitable and sufficient for
the task. All lifting eyes, chains, shackles etc must be examined and the test certificates checked. Do not
attempt to improvise if you have not suitable lifting equipment or the lifting equipment is compromised.
If you are unable to perform the lift correctly, do not proceed and contact your line manager
During the lift, keep all people not directly involved with the lift away from the area, and ensure nobody
is in the line of fire.
We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
