Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 479

                                                03 September 2015

                                                 Manual Handling

Please see enclosed safety alert regarding manual handling that was shared with us by Gilbarco Veeder-
           Root.

Whilst we try to minimise it, we often have to manually handle signage panels that are bulky and
awkward to handle. Use mechanical devices (such as the MEWP) to move and lift panels where
practicable, and use team lifting where mechanical devices are not suitable. Always assess the load and
environment before doing any manual handling, including the weather conditions; some of the larger
panels can become sails in high or gusty winds and that should be considered as part of your LMRA.

The latest HSE statistics show that 18354 manual handling injuries occurred in 2013/14, 1431 of which
           were major injures.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
