Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 464

                                                    21 May 2015

                                                      Sun Safety

Please see enclosed safety poster regarding IOSH’s current Occupational Cancer complain.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the world, and the main cause is exposure to the sun.
In 2014, we actively participated in a Sun Safety Initiative and as a result of the findings, IOSH have released a
new video aimed at the construction industry and prevention of skin cancer, see

                                       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1vEuLdOgnw

You can help prevent skin cancer by simply ensuring you keep your skin covered up (one of several reasons why
long trousers and long sleeves are specified in our site rules), and using sun block on any remaining exposed skin.

Remember, it is not just sunny days that can cause damage to the skin, the UV rays that cause cancer are not
visible and can penetrate clouds. It is not just the Summer months that we are at risk, even in the UK the risk
period is between April to September.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
