Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 446

                                                  15 January 2015

                                                       Ladders

Please see enclosed bulletin regarding ladders that was shared with us by ExxonMobil.

Although we don’t carry or work from from ladders, we still regularly use built in ladders for ascending
or descending from scaffold towers and MEWPs.

This study shows that the descent is the most hazardous activity, probably due to the person losing
focus and thinking of the next task rather than the current one.

According to the latest HSE statistics, in 2013/14 there were 19 fatal falls from height, 11 of which
were in the construction industry. A further 2895 major injuries and 3038 7-day injuries occurred from
           falls from height.

Always keep your focus on the current task, even you don’t consider it a high risk task. Remember any
work at height, including ascending or descending a ladder is always a high risk task.

We are all a product of learning. Every skill we have; everything we know; everything we believe and everything we do has
been learned throughout the course of our lives. Some of us learn best by studying graphs and charts, some through visual
presentations, and some by reading detailed text books. It is important that we receive information in a format that works for
us as individuals! That’s why at Xmo Strata we use a variety of communication platforms such as bulletins, newsletters,
videos etc. However, if you feel there is a better way for us to share health and safety information, please let us know.
Ultimately, your safety is in your hands – but we will do all we can to keep you well informed!
