Health, Safety & Environmental Bulletin No 157
S Martin – 8 October 2009
Foot Injury
Please see enclosed self explanatory safety alert.
This highlights the need to always use the right tool for the job and to put control
measures in place to control any hazards that are found. In this case the worker carried
out the initial part of a LMRA (last minute risk assessment) – he identified the shelf as a
hazard, but he failed to place any form of control measure or alter his work plan to take
into account this hazard. Risk assessments are pointless unless you control the hazards
that you identify.
Our individual safety is not solely in our hands, we have to rely on those around us to steer us away
from danger and warn us of potential hazards. We need safety awareness to be instinctive and form an
integral part of our working lives; it is this, in turn, that may save the lives of others.
